PARTICIPANT CREDITS VS. DISCOUNT CODES

We just introduced a new “Participant credits” feature that allows the organizer to assign monetary discounts to participants that can be used when registering for future events.

How participant credits work:

The organizer assigns monetary credits to the participant’s Webscorer account using an admin tool
The participant can use the credits on any future event that has participant credits turned on in reg setup
On the event reg page, the participant is automatically offered to use the credits for an enabled event
After applying the credit for a discount, any balance remaining is retained and can be used for another event

Participant credits fix these limitations in discount codes:

1. Discount codes are not secure, anyone who knows code can use it
2. Using $50-OFF discount code for an event whose entry fee is $40, there’s no way to retain the $10 left
3. There is no way to combine two discount codes for the same event
4. Participant credits makes it easier to sell gift certificates for future events

Steps by the organizer:

1. Navigate to the reg admin page
   - Click on “Registration setup”
   - Check that “Require Webscorer account = Yes"
   - Navigate to the “Discount codes” section
   - Set “Enable use of participant credits = Yes”
   - Click “Save event setup"
2. Navigate to Organizers / My registrations
3. Click on “Manage participant credits” menu button
4. Click on “Add an account” button
   - Enter the email address for the participant’s Webscorer account
   - Enter the monetary amount of the credit (in your local currency)
   - Enter an optional reason for the credit (e.g. Credit for volunteering at Sun Mountain race)

Steps by the participant:

1. Sign in to your Webscorer account
2. Navigate to the event reg page
3. Fill out the reg form
4. You will automatically get an option to apply your credit balance towards the entry fee
5. Any amount remaining can be used for another event
6. You can check your own credit balance via Profiles / My racer profile
