HOW TO USE MULTIPLE DEVICES TO SCALE A BUSY LAP & FINISH LINE

Do you want to use multiple devices to time same race - each operator tapping racers from the same list?  Or do you want to separate the tasks for recording some racers with one device and others using another - and the devices will sync the data with one another in real time?

Or are you a track & field organizer, but you don't have access to expensive camera-based timing equipment?  Or are you a pool swimming organizer, but the automated touch-pads are not available for timing the heats?

Webscorer PRO version 5.3 introduced a new Master / Helper timing mode that makes it practical to time events with busy finishes using multiple devices.  This feature can also be used for any event where it's desirable to have multiple devices share the timing task at the finish line.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

1. Create the master start list on one device
2. Set the timing mode to Master / Helper
   - Navigate to the "Race Start" panel
   - Tap "Timing mode"
   - Set "Use helper devices = On"
   - Select "Role of this device = Master"
   - Select either Bluetooth or Webscorer.com as the way to receive data from Helper devices
   - Select whether you want each Helper device to view the timing data from all devices
3. Share the start list with other devices
   - Tap the "Post start list" toolbar button
   - Tap "Share via Bluetooth" or tap "Post to Webscorer.com"
4. On each of the helper devices
   - Tap "Race with start list"
   - Tap "Download start list via Bluetooth" or "Download start from Webscorer.com"
   - When sharing via Bluetooth, tap the name of the Helper device on the Master
   - When sharing via Webscorer.com, tap "My posted start lists / Race name"
   - The app will then auto-navigate to the "Timing Mode" panel
   - Select "Role of this device = Helper"
5. Start the race from the Master device
   - On the Master device, tap "Activate master"
   - On all Helper devices, tap "Connect to master"
   - When using Bluetooth, select the name of the master device on the Bluetooth popup
   - On the Master device, tap "Start race on all devices"
6. Time the designated racer(s) on each Helper device
   - For example, device #1 could time just the racer on lane 1
   - The Helper device can be configured to send its data automatically to the Master
   - Or you can allow the Helper operator to review the timing data, the tap "Send data"
   - The Master device does not need to do anything
7. Finish the race from the Master device
   - Tap "Race control / Finish race / All devices"
   - This will automatically end the race on all Helper devices

NOTES:

- There can be only one Master device
- There is no limit on the number of Helper devices
- The Master device can also participate in timing
- You can use any mix of iOS, Android, Windows and Mac devices when sharing data via Webscorer.com
- When sharing timing data via Bluetooth, you must use similar devices:
   - You can mix iPhones, iPads and Macs
   - You can mix Android and Windows devices
- The Master device can have "Live results = On" during the timing
- Races with laps are supported
- When using iOS devices, syncing via Webscorer.com requires iOS 13 or later
- The Master / Helper timing mode requires the PRO Multi-device timing subscription
- You can trial this feature using the free PRO Trial which is limited to max 5 racers, but supports multiple devices
