The Yamagata Challenge will be held on Saturday April 26th in Kailua Kona.
The race includes two courses a 14 mile Long Course and a 10 mile Short Course. Both courses will begin at Honokohau Harbor and end a Keauhou Bay.
Race Day Check-in is 7:30 to 8:30 am at the HIPA halau at Honokohau Harbor. A shuttle bus will provide transportation from Keauhou to Honokohau, leaving Keauhou at 7:45 am
Race Meeting will be at 8:45 and the race will start at 9 am
There will be a pāʻina and meal after the race at Keauhou Canoe Club. Awards will be given for the Yamagata Challenge and the HIPA 2025 Season Point Series.
Register and payment online through WebScorer. LATE REGISTRATION begins Thursday before the race.
REGISTRATION CLOSES FRIDAY, April 25th at 6 pm. No registrations will be allowed the day of the race.
Fees are $20 for members and $35 for non-members. A $15 late registration fee will apply to all adults after Wednesday April 23rd
Canoes must have numbers on both sides at the bow. Paddlers without a number will be assigned one, which they can pick up at check-in. Paddlers that have already been assigned a previous temporary number should register with and reuse that number.

In consideration of being allowed to participate in any way in HIPA Race, I, the undersigned, intending to be legally bound hereby for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators, do waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages I may have against Hawaii Island Paddlesports Association (HIPA), the State & County of Hawaii, and any race sponsors or volunteers.1. Agree that prior to participating, I will inspect the facilities and equipment to be used, and if I believe anything is unsafe, I will withdraw from the race and refuse to participate.2. Acknowledge and fully understand that each participant will be engaging in activities that involve risk or serious injury, including permanent disability and death, and severe social and economic losses which might result not only from my own, but also the actions, inactions or negligence of others, the rules of play, or the condition of the premises or of any equipment used. Further that there may be other risks not known to me or not reasonably foreseeable at this time.3. Assume all the foregoing risks and accept personal responsibility for the damages following such injury, permanent disability or death.4. Release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue Hawaii Island Paddlesports Association (HIPA), and any affiliated Associations, clubs, their respective administrators, directors, coaches and other volunteers or employees, if any. I also indemnify any and all other participants, sponsoring agencies, sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners and lessors of the premises used to conduct the event, all of which are hereinafter referred to as “releasees”, from demands, losses and/or damages on account of injury, including death or damage to property, caused or alleged to be caused in whole or part by the negligence of the releasee or otherwise.
