A downhill ski race for all ages*, of all abilities and skiing expertise the Schuss Boomer Downhill is one of but a handful of surviving town downhill races left in Canada. Now about to celebrate it's 39th running.
This is a one day event, combining the fun race and the need for speed. Our event remains both a fun event and a serious event for those who feel the "Need for Speed". Come on out and challenge your spouse, your friends or yourself and have a fun weekend of skiing and general merriment and foolishness at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort on Saturday April 5, 2025.
There are several different components to this one day event:
The race consists of teams of three (3) which can be dressed up in costume and individual racers. Each team picks an estimated time and the closest “combined guessed time” for the team wins. Prizes for best costumes.
The individuals with the need-for-speed compete to be the fastest on the mountain. (both run time and speed trap speed)
Optional speed camp the day before the race. Multiple coaches working together to provide safe and effective training. This will be a structured day with working from partial runs to full course. Timed runs in afternoon. All skiers in the mini schuss category must attend the speed camp. Cost $30
Optional one run Slalom race on Turkey Shoot Sunday afternoon - 3rd annual Schussboomer Combined - no additional cost.
Registration fee is $70 which includes a T-shirt, burger & beer ticket.
HBM has offered lift tickets for $40 for event participants.
Smithers Ski and Snowboard Club Athletes of the U12 - 2 day program and older are eligible to register for this event (if your athlete is in this program and not yet 10 years old, please note their age as 10 when registering). All skiers in the mini schuss must attend the speed camp.
