Welcome to the MAKAI Cup 2025 - "more than just a race !"

And this year.....the 2025 Paddle Australia Canoe Ocean Racing Championships 

 

***EXPERIENCED OCEAN PADDLERS ONLY- NO FIRST TIMERS.***

This decision has not been taken lightly, and neither should yours.

This is a big OPEN OCEAN event of approximately 22km along a very isolated stretch of coast and your safety on the water is paramount.

 

For any first timers we have the Mini MAKAI 10K race.....which you can ENTER HERE

 

The MAKAI Cup has a two day window allowing for the best opportunity to get the safest conditions.

Preference will ALWAYS be given to the Saturday.

 

 

ENTRY INFO;

 

  • Regular Early Bird Fees ($130) apply until midnight 15th January 2025.

 

  • Standard Entry Fees ($160) apply from 16th February 2025 until midnight 31st January.

 

  • Late Entry Fees ($200) apply from 1st February

 

  • ALL Entries will close at 8:00pm AEDST Thursday 6th February, 2025

 

  • No late entries will be accpted after entries close (no exeptions)

 

  • NO REGISTRATIONS ON THE DAY AND NO REFUNDS. 

 

  • Ages are calculated as at the end of 2025. (Example - if you turn 50 anytime in 2025, you can enter 50+)

 

 

DOUBLES (*SS-2 & *OC-2)

When completing your entry, please remember the deal, EVERY paddler MUST complete the event registration process. That means BOTH paddlers in a Double (*SS-2 or *OC-2) must complete an individual entry, and must also provide your Paddling partner's name.
(MSS-2 / MOC2 = Men, WSS-2 / WOC2 = Women, XSS-2 / XOC2 = Mixed)

Members of Paddle Australia (PA) affiliated Clubs will need their PA Membership Number for entry.

NATIONAL OCEAN RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS - Specific requirements

As this is a Paddle Australia National Selection Event it is expected that entrants who are nominating for Selection have read and agree to the 2025 Paddle Australia Canoe Ocean Racing Selection Criteria Supplement as found HERE.

Entrants seeking Selection to the Australian Team to compete at World Championships are also required to Comply with Sport Integrity Australia requirements - detailed in the Registration process.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS -  all paddlers

By entering you agree to have: 

  • Jacket style PFD. HiVis - NO INFLATABLES OF ANY KIND
  • Mobile phone in waterproof case
  • Leash attaching you to your craft AT ALL TIMES. 
  • HiVis hat and or shirt 
  • Plenty of water/fluids

 

  • Once again, in the interests of your safety, MAKAI Paddlers will be providing EVERY craft with a GPS Tracking device.
  • By entering this event you agree to carry the Tracking device on your craft, or in your lifejacket for the duration of the race, and to return it immediately on completion of the race.
  • Un-returned Tracking devices will incur a fee of $350:00, which you agree to pay if the device is not returned.

 

We'll have a big screen at the finish line, showing live location data for all craft, and your family and friends will also be able to watch your progress on the TrackMeLive web page.

 

START WAVE

When entering you will be asked to select your Start Wave.

Be honest !!

The 1st Start is for those paddlers who will take 1hr 55 or longer to complete the regular course.

The 2nd Start is ONLY for those paddlers who know they can complete the regular course in LESS than 1hr 55.

 

MINIMUM PROGRESS  - all paddlers

Competitor safety is our highest priority.

All paddlers are required to complete the first 3-4 kilometres of the course within a minimum time period. (minimum progress).

 

Specific minimum progress requirments related to the selected course will be provided at the pre-race Briefing on the day.

 

Those paddlers who do not satisfy the minimum progress requirement will be asked to proceed to a designated safe exit point, as identified in the pre-race Briefing, where they will eventually be collected by the Makai Transporter.

 

Once again, this is a committing paddle, of approx 22km, on an exposed and isolated section of open ocean. 

If you have any doubts about your ability to keep pace with the main body of competitors, and/or to achieve the minimum progress requirement, please enter Mini Makai instead.
